In an effort to keep it clients up to date, the Burns White Medicare Compliance Practice is presenting the following updates for your review:
On August 6, 2009, CMS released the updated version of the MMSEA Section 111 Medicare Secondary Payer Mandatory Reporting Liability Insurance (Including Self-Insurance), No-Fault Insurance, and Workers’ Compensation User Guide. The new version of the User Guide encompasses all the Alerts issued by CMS following the release of the original User Guide on March 16, 2009.
The updated User Guide can be found on the CMS website by following the FIRST link above.
Additionally, CMS recently issued an Alert for Liability Insurance (Including Self-Insurance), No-Fault Insurance and Workers’ Compensation. This Alert contained additional detail regarding who/what entity is a Responsible Reporting Entity (RRE) for Liability Insurance (Including Self-Insurance), No-Fault Insurance, and Workers’ Compensation. CMS will accept public comments regarding this draft language until August 16, 2009. Comments must be submitted to CMS’ MMSEA Section 111 resource mailbox at: PL110-173SEC111-comments@cms.hhs.gov
The specific draft language regarding the revised definition of an RRE can be found on the CMS website by following the SECOND link above.
